Mboya Nicholson & Trumpeter Eric Weiden Play Jazz for Seniors
Seniors for whom independent living is neither plausible nor foreseeable, quite often artistic fulfillment can be a challenge. The mere act of venturing out to a music venue to hear a concert is not practical for those who may find it difficult to even travel a small distance from their care facility. That is why I am delighted to be playing with the fantastic trumpeter, Eric Weiden in the jazz duo, “Swinging on the Sunny Side”. This group works with Alberta Health Arts and travels to care homes in Alberta, to give residents the sounds of swinging jazz, typically from the days of most residents’s youth. The repertoire includes standards written by Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, and other stalwarts of “Tin Pan Alley”.And it is always a pleasure to provide music for the enjoyment of elders who don’t get an opportunity to regularly hear live performances.
